State of the Scribe: August 2026

Hey pones!

Convention season is nuts. At this moment I’m writing this while visiting Gencon. Fortunately the schedule is slower this month while I’m waiting for the cover for the Roman story. Only new story is the return of an older one, Light of Danu.

This story follows the conflict between a magically vulnerable humanity on an alien world filled with monstergirls, including the cervitaurs. After failing to sue for peace, a prince of the powerful human nation is reborn as one of them, and finds that she has missed the war. As she rises to adulthood, she discovers that the conflict she failed to stop in her youth was nothing but the opening act to a war that will sweep across the planet. Humanity can’t survive the magic of its new world. What side will she be on?

I’ll be at Everfree Northwest again this year. Assuming I survive long enough to make it this far.

This convention represents a significant line in terms of my professional position. So we’ll see if I end up back with Succubus Publishing writing board games or if I have to focus fully on my own writing. One way or another, my next calendar will be very different

• Into the Everwood is my take on the Bloomburrow/Redwall type setting. Small wild animals, a medieval/magical elements, wars to fight and mysteries to solve. It’s an anthro world, though you’ll find plenty of my usual hallmarks (like TF), ancient technology, human influence, etc. I’m hoping to see it work as a series, it’s one of those worlds that has so much going on it could sustain several books with ease. • Layers of Change–Imagine an infinitely recursive hollow earth, where our same planet becomes increasingly bizarre the deeper down you travel. The story follows a true shapeshifter (at least he becomes one early on), which in this world are one of the most feared and dangerous beings–as they can travel freely between layers and take forms suited to each one. He becomes strange creatures, though his travels soon lead him to creatures he fears to leave behind.
