State of the Scribe: October 2024

Hey ponies, welcome to the spooky month!
Been a busy last month for me as you might imagine, with the Indiegogo campaign running for Words of Power. That campaign successfully funded a few days ago, reaching 99 copies sold at the time of completion. That means I’ll be writing 4 additional chapters for the epilogue, which will go both before and after what’s in the book. I’d like to answer a few of the questions I didn’t get to during the main story, and now I should get a chance!
If you didn’t get in on the campaign, you still can right here: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/words-of-power-hardcover-print#/
The campaign will be staying in InDemand, meaning backing it will still be possible, up until I receive the proof copy of the book for printing. Obviously once I start printing them, I need to have a set number of copies in stone. But for now, you can still get in on the campaign, and those four extra chapters that will never be posted anywhere else.
I’ve been quite productive in other writing ways, though unfortunately not very many of them are pony right now. It’s crazy that I’m now sitting on nine novels at the point of at least the first draft or further. Can I make it to twelve this year like I hoped? Guess we’ll have to wait and see how things go during the rest of 2024. I would be extremely happy to see at least 2 of those published before the end of the year, though it might end up being only one. We’ll have to see how things shake out.
All that effort means that I’ve kinda fallen short on the pony stories, at least for another short time (and there’s another Pokémon story coming this month, hahaha). I really need to make a website to hold all of these. Patreon is so miserable for reading books, and I hate sending people there.
This month is the rare gap in my FimFiction content. Yet I have two stories that should be making their way back to FimFiction next month, covers willing. Part of me wishes I could just bite the bullet and learn how to do covers on my own–but if it’s anything like the number of hours I’ve invested learning how to write, it would be completely infeasible. I would rather direct that time to making more stories, even if that means some longer wait times.
I’ve got three ongoing weekly projects right now: Ravana’s Shadow, Playing Koi, and a newly releasing story: Another Day at Unity. Plus the usual suite of weekly stories. Let’s jump in.
First, Ravana’s Shadow. This story is the sequel to Forerunner’s Child, a story about a remote human colony in the distant future (the same future as in Message in a Bottle, though this is non-pony). The colony, as it turns out, is run by children, without a single adult in their population. How and why did this happen? What’s really going on? Follow Kit, an astronaut from ancient Earth, as she tracks down those mysteries, and ultimately becomes a part of the Mara colony.
This story is the sequel to that one, and I can’t say much about it that wouldn’t spoil the first one. Check the first chapter of Forerunner’s Child here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/92942140
Playing Koi is among the silliest projects I’ve ever written. It explores a magical fish aquarium at a local mall, where the residents are all fish-sized merpeople. Our heroine ventures into the aquarium to track down her missing girlfriend, only to discover a strange world of time dilation, homicidal cannibals, and maybe kinda-sorta jumpstart an underwater industrial revolution? Look I’m not sure why I even wrote this, but it has an amazing cover, so:

Finally, the newest weekly story, Another Day at Unity. This story explores the same setting from Spirits of Change, a Pokémon world inspired by His Dark Materials. In this world, every human is born with their soul outside their body, in the form of a Pokémon. These Pokémon decide your lot in life, and work together with their human to advance each others’ goals. After the events of Spirits of Change, a school is built with the intent of educating new legendary and mythical children, as their powers make them exceptionally dangerous. This story is an anthology, beginning and occasionally visiting this school, while showing off some more interesting aspects of that world.
That’s it for the weekly stories. I have more going that I can’t share with you yet. With luck, one or two new stories will come to FimFiction next month, including one that might even be voter driven. (Remember Voyage of the Equinox?).
I can’t promise for sure, because covers hold these stories back, and they are outside my control. But I can hope!
Thanks everyone who continues to read and support me through all these years. Somehow, incredibly, I’m still writing these things. Without your help, I’d probably be writing network backend for some loser system that no human would ever touch. I’m still doing what I love, even if I’m writing a little less pony than I used to. There is more coming, I promise. Just hold out a little longer.
