State of the Scribe: July 2025

Hey pones! Another month of fanfic and other things (the 85th month since I started these, how wild is that?)

Another exciting one for me, though there’s less new pony announcements here than I’ve had in the past. I’ll be brief, pony content will be after the break. I promise not to linger and waste time.

Two months ago I launched fmy first original novel, Forerunner’s Child–a hard science fiction novel in the spirit of stories like Ender’s Game, about a colony of children in the far future and the brave (relatively modern) astronaut who wakes up there and tries to free them.

Now a few months have gone by, and it’s time for the next book. I’ve got a few more already written, that I’m releasing every two months as the covers and stuff get finished. If you’re reading this, it’s out right now!

Obviously don’t want to throw spoilers out there, but our Heroine from book one isn’t content to sit back and accept the status quo. A story about diplomacy, about huamns and posthumans trying to find common ground. A cozy science-fiction mystery in a dystopian setting.

This was produced the same way, using machine tools to make it affordable for an indie author like myself who expects to move a few dozen copies at most. Thanks for your patience in putting up with my musings on non-pony matters. I’m excited about this series, but I know that many of you don’t care about not pony stuff. I’ll restrict myself to a brief announcement in these calendars each time a new book releases, and get back to the pony stuff now.

But I’m proud of these books, I know they’re my best work yet, and I’m grateful you put up with me for a bit while I gush about them.

Alright, back to our regularly-scheduled programming.

Pony is continuing the existing monthly stories, along with the vote-driven story Quarantine.

The monthly stories stay on my Patreon until they’re finished, though you can check them out there if you just can’t wait. None of the three are close to being finished, my guess is we’ll see one of them (Probably Legio IX Hispania) near December. The other two will take longer. I had thought that Rescue Process would make it to Fimfiction by now (it already has a cover), but we decided to let it simmer, that way the artist can get a piece done for the most important moments. I know waiting sucks, but it’s awesome to have a story with art! It’ll be worth the wait!

Then we’ve got one more story that finished but is still waiting on a cover (Family of Chaos, the story about Discord’s sister). Once that gets it, it’ll make the transition over to Fimfiction.

There’s also a new Minific this month, about a pony on earth with a completely normal job. I’ll post that into Starscribbles probably, so it can have a nice home.

Continuing to the other two stories on our list here. First, we’re wrapping up the third Pokemon series in the mythical TF series, Celebi Like Them. You can guess what the TF is about, and what sort of time-travel adventures that the story includes. Lots of time travel, lots of pokemon TF–I couldn’t finish up that series without giving one of my other favorite mythicals the spotlight. Story’s free on my Patreon for all, since genfic doesn’t exist.

Hen we’ve got another pokemon story–an anthology, devoted to the characters of Spirits of Change. A version of the pokemon world where people have pokemon daemons–external souls that represent their true essence. Only this one is an anthology, so we see get to see many more characters than Hayden from the original novel. A lot of new perspectives.
